Job Summary
Design and build safety evaluations to understand frontier AI capabilities in biology, rigorously addressing open scientific questions without textbook answers. Collaborate with scientists and external experts to develop robust safeguards against misuse, ensuring AI systems maximize societal benefit. Monitor emerging technologies across AI to assess impacts on safeguard robustness and partner on evolving frontier safety policies. Communicate safety work to internal teams and external partners while integrating data strategies and compute platforms into practical research tools.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Expertise in biological sciences
- Significant experience building, using, and/or evaluating deep learning systems, ideally in research-driven environments
- Strong engineering and scientific fundamentals
- Comfort with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and loosely-defined research problems
- Strong communication skills across technical and scientific audiences
- Interest in shaping the frontier of safety for AI & biology
