Job Summary

Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers during hardware design to establish and refine component and system level reliability targets for power electronics and battery systems. Provide Design for Reliability (DfR) inputs during new product development, drive Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA), and develop ALT Reliability Test Plans using physics of failures methodology. Track field reliability performance metrics, conduct failure analysis of test and field returns to determine root causes, and implement containment and corrective actions. This role supports Lunar Energy's mission to transition homes to 100% clean energy by ensuring product reliability throughout the entire lifecycle of revolutionary home energy products.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Equivalent
  • Proven track record of solving complex power electronics reliability failures
  • Working knowledge in theory of operation of common power converter topologies (inverter, buck boost converter...etc)
  • Deep understanding of physics of failure and common failure mechanisms for PCBAs and power electronics components (MOSFETs, capacitors, inductors...etc)
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning and EDX - know which technique to recommend given a specific failure
  • Experience with accelerated life testing models and the governing equations, specifically for PCBAs, battery storage, and relevant mechanical structures
  • Understanding of reliability statistics
