Job Summary
Staff Product Designer at The New York Times (NAPP) who will imagine and prototype AI-powered editorial experiences, using editorial judgment and UX expertise to deliver AI-enabled features across NYT products. You’ll lead with a strong prototyping focus to communicate possibilities to leadership, collaborate with product, editorial and engineering teams in an Agile environment, and champion ethical AI practices while upholding journalistic independence. This role emphasizes designing for AI/LLM-enabled workflows, leading and mentoring junior designers, and aligning design outcomes with brand aesthetics and editorial standards.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years experience as product designer or product manager
- Experience creating coded prototypes using AI-enabled tools and workflows
- Experience collaborating with editorial or product teams to deliver user-loved experiences
- Portfolio/case studies showing shipped work in 0-to-1 environments
- Experience designing user experiences that use AI/LLM
- Experience refining AI tone, format, and behavior to align with brand guidelines and product quality benchmarks
