Job Summary

Lead development of high-power electrical circuits for Rivian's off-board charging products, including DC fast chargers and energy storage systems. Execute stress analysis, magnetic design, schematic creation, and PCBA layout for Active Power-Factor-Correction rectifiers and isolated DC-DC converters. Conduct trade studies on circuit topology and power devices, simulate converters using MATLAB/Simulink and PLECS, and design EMI/EMC filters. Characterize semiconductor devices including SiC and GaN while collaborating with cross-functional teams on mechanical, software, and manufacturing integration. Test prototype circuits in lab and manage supplier interactions for critical components. This role supports Rivian's state-of-the-art energy products in Torrance, CA, requiring engagement with systems, test, quality, and reliability teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum M.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Ph.D. with 3+ years of industry experience
  • specializing in power electronics
  • Familiarity with common 1/3-phase topologies such as AC-DC PFC Rectifier, and Isolated DC-DC converters (e.g. dual active bridge, LLC, etc)
  • Require solid understanding of power semiconductor switches and diodes, and their characteristics
  • Strong experience designing and optimizing power converter circuits including gate drivers
  • Familiarity with digital control of power electronic circuits such as power stage average/small-signal modeling, closed-loop control, and PWM modulations
  • Experience with bidirectional AC/DC or DC/DC power conversion
  • Experience using software tools such as Spice, PLECS, Ansys, and MATLAB
  • PCB layout experience using Altium Designer
  • Exposure to EMC requirements and safety certification
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Expertise in high-power EV charger or energy storage, stationary-related power converters is preferred
  • Experience of magnetic design, circuit parasitic analysis using FEA simulation tools such as Ansys Maxwell/Q3D or equivalent is PLUS+, strongly preferred
