Staff Platform Engineer / Staff Site Reliability Engineer
On-siteSydney, New South Wales, Australia
Job Summary
Set the standard for infrastructure reliability and accreditation across cloud, on-premises, and classified environments, establishing authoritative design patterns that others build from. Diagnose systemic reliability issues to structural fixes rather than patches, while defining team automation standards focused on safety, idempotency, and maintainability. Carry the estate's ISM/PSPF posture as the primary authority for multi-domain accreditation, mentoring senior engineers to raise the bar across automation and systems design. Provide thought leadership on secure-toolchain practices for software, autonomy, and maritime engineering teams, ensuring consistent reliability discipline across rotations.
Required Qualifications
- Around twelve or more years in infrastructure, reliability or platform engineering
- Demonstrated experience weighted over formal qualifications
- A trusted track record of running production toolchains and classified-domain infrastructure end to end
- Deep experience across several layers
- Conversant knowledge in the rest of the infrastructure
- Authoritative knowledge across both cloud-native (AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes) and classified on-premises (Windows, Active Directory, VMware, air-gapped) estates
- Real ISM/PSPF accreditation ownership
- Significant influence over how an estate is run
- Exemplary scripting and automation judgement
- The ability to set and hold an automation standard across a team
- Systems-design authority at platform scale
- Clear communication of complex reliability and accreditation trade-offs to diverse audiences
- Australian citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian NV2 security clearance
- Existing NV2 or equivalent (preferred)
Desired Qualifications
- Deep experience in highly regulated environments (Defence or other Critical Infrastructure)
- Setting accreditation approach across multi-domain environments
- A history of influencing reliability and secure-toolchain practice beyond your own team
- Experience mentoring senior engineers
- Setting team-wide standards for automation and infrastructure craft
- Software-engineering depth — for example production service development in Go, Rust or similar
