Job Summary
Perform Apheresis procedures autonomously in critical care, emergency rooms, and outpatient centers, including plasma exchange, red cell exchange, leukapheresis, stem cell harvests, and photopheresis. Conduct venipunctures, manage central venous catheter access, and assess patient status relative to therapeutic apheresis using the nursing process and laboratory results. Coordinate closely with physicians and nurses across multiple hospitals to arrange treatments and facilitate coordinated care. Act as a consultant to external healthcare personnel regarding clinical apheresis and evaluate medication compatibility for procedure safety. Assemble, restock, and maintain supplies and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. Variable 1st shift Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week with rotating on-call duties. Requires current state RN licensure, CPR certification, and a valid driver's license. No prior apheresis experience required; comprehensive training provided.
Required Qualifications
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
- CPR certification
- Bachelor's degree OR a combination of education and work experience
- Two years of experience in medical/surgical or critical care nursing, OR-related experience
- Good vein selection and venipuncture skills
- Good verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss procedures and medical issues with patients, families, and physicians
- A current, valid driver's license
- A good driving record
- COVID-19 vaccination (or approved exemption process)
