Job Summary
Staff Mechanical Systems Engineer (Naval Architect) with a naval architecture or ocean engineering background focused on submersibles and underwater vehicles. The role involves naval architectural responsibilities for underwater vehicle system design including requirements and operations analysis, conceptual vehicle design, pressure hull sizing, ballast assessment, hydrodynamic analysis, energy system sizing, propulsion/propulsor design, weight, equilibrium, stability and trim calculations and tests, and auxiliary systems design. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across programs, collaborate in a team environment, lead teams, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively. Required qualifications include a BS in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or STEM field with 12+ years of experience (or MS with 10, or PhD with 8), proficiency in naval architectural principles and tools, and US citizenship with the ability to obtain TS/SCI and pass a polygraph. Preferred qualifications cover experience with manned submersibles and related modeling, CFD, NX CAD, and related simulation and testing. Relocation assistance may be available. Location is Annapolis, MD within a US government contractor context, with a salary range of $169,000 to $253,600 and potential bonuses and benefits.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or STEM equivalent and a minimum of 12 years of experience in the design, testing and/or operation of marine vehicles; or MS degree with 10 years of experience; or PhD with 8 years of experience.
- Proficiency with naval architectural principles, tools, and calculations
- Proficiency in using common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools
- US citizen and the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance and pass a polygraph
