Job Summary
Staff Mechanical Engineer role based in American Fork, Utah with days in in-house manufacturing in Spanish Fork, focusing on core development of AI/ML enabled security solutions (optical pan/tilt cameras, batteries, solar power, electronics packaging, mechanisms, sensors, payloads). You will lead mechanical/ electromechanical product development from concept to production, own design direction through trade-off analyses, manage hardware timelines with external partners, and drive rapid concept evaluations. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of mechanical/electromechanical design experience, a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience), strong CAD (PTC Creo/Windchill), DFM expertise for sheet metal/welding/injection molding, and a track record of cross-functional collaboration and rigorous design reviews. In-office role with ~5-10% travel to overseas facilities; travel and collaboration across Product Management, Electrical Engineering, Firmware, and Manufacturing teams are integral.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years of professional experience designing mechanical and electromechanical products (e.g., IoT devices, industrial or medical equipment, drones, camera systems, consumer electronics)
- Strong CAD skills, with a preference for PTC Creo and Windchill
- Deep understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), specifically for sheet metal, welding, and injection molding
- Experience leading complex mechanical and electromechanical product development programs through the entire lifecycle
- Cross-functional collaboration with Product Management, Program Management, Electrical Engineering, Firmware, and Manufacturing teams
- Design ownership and rigorous design reviews, risk identification and mitigation throughout development phases
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Ability to work in-office at American Fork HQ and Spanish Fork MFG with 5-10% travel to overseas facilities
- Excellent communication and project-management capabilities
- Experience with manufacturing partnerships and external design/manufacturing partners
- Mentorship and leadership potential
