Job Summary
Staff Mechanical Engineer at Intuitive Surgical responsible for developing, documenting, and validating new electromechanical designs and improving existing surgical devices for the da Vinci system. Contributes as a Mechanical Engineering representative on cross-functional teams; analyzes, prototypes, tests concepts; performs risk analyses and documents design requirements; supports fixtures/assembly processes with manufacturing and automation teams; provides sustaining mechanical engineering support to address manufacturing, supply chain, and field issues; participates in quality and regulatory activities; leads and mentors engineers; designs plastic injection-molded components with strong SolidWorks CAD capabilities; applies GD&T and tolerancing, lifecycle knowledge from concept to transfer to manufacturing; thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a focus on robust, high-quality products.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of experience, Master’s with 8 years of experience, or PhD with 6 years of experience
- Experience designing plastic injection-m molded components with focus on scalability, cost efficiency, and manufacturability (DFM reviews, tool design reviews, supplier engagement)
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD for design of complex parts and assemblies
- Ownership of top-level assemblies and BOMs including material selection and manufacturing processes
- Proficient in GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis; familiarity with simulation/analysis tools a plus
- Experience across all phases of product development lifecycle (concept, detail design, debugging, verification, qualification, transfer to manufacturing)
- Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship and lead small technical teams
- Self-motivated, hands-on, fast-paced, collaborative team environment
- Curiosity and persistence to investigate and resolve complex technical challenges
- Commitment to designing robust, reliable, high-quality products

- Preference given to candidates not residing in certain U.S. states
