Job Summary
Design, prototype, test, and manufacture new endoscope designs while developing requirements with Product Marketing and Clinical Engineers. Lead camera and endoscope development, investigate root causes of latent and emerging design issues, and collaborate with Failure Analysis and Supplier Engineering teams. Work with Manufacturing teams to build new product, mentor less experienced team members, and host design reviews. Travel up to 5% time. This Staff Mechanical Engineer role at Intuitive Surgical focuses on advancing robotic-assisted surgery technologies like the da Vinci system and Ion to improve surgical precision and patient outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of experience
- Comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to Manufacturing
- Hands-on engineer with the proven ability to work well in a team environment
- Comfortable with setting up experiments, selecting, and using measurement and test equipment
- Strong understanding of component selection criteria, and design for reliability and manufacturability
- Proficient in process development and documentation
- Ability to travel up to 5% time (when safe to travel)
- Proven experience in a fast paced, high transaction environment
- Good presentation skills and comfortable with hosting design reviews
- A real excitement to learn and get to the bottom of tough technical problems
- A passion for creating robust and reliable products
- Current proof of vaccination against certain diseases including COVID-19
Desired Qualifications
- M.S. or above
- Experience in the medical industry
- Experience with opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical devices
