Job Summary
Develop next-generation satellite structures, deployable mechanisms, and related hardware by collaborating directly with manufacturers to optimize designs for manufacturability. Overcome significant design challenges by balancing quick, efficient design with a process-oriented approach, ensuring projects move from proof of concept to successful delivery. Interface with directors, team leads, and stakeholders to resolve technical conflicts while managing design impacts on manufacturing costs, time, and weight. Utilize CAD tools like Inventor and SolidWorks to create complex mechanical systems, accounting for thermal, electronic, RF, and manufacturing considerations.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong specialization in satellite or broader aerospace hardware
- Ability to perform hand calculations for fast concept implementation and simple design creation
- Experience creating complex mechanical structures, taking into account thermal, electronic, RF, and manufacturing considerations
- Proficient in CAD tools like Inventor and SolidWorks
- Experience with projects from proof of concept to delivery
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working as a mechanical architect
- Spacecraft system-level knowledge
- Proven experience with satellite structures and validating mechanical platforms for launch
- Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools, with strong design intuition to minimize unnecessary iterations
- End-to-end mechanical design experience from concept to maintenance, with particular strength in the concept and design phases for both composite and metallic structures
- Deep understanding of manufacturing processes for metallic and composite materials, including CFRP
- Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
