Job Summary
Staff Lawyer, Family Law Centre in Kamloops provides family law services including summary legal advice and full representation, duty counsel in courts, and support for family/child protection matters such as separation, parenting arrangements, property division, and child protection. Responsibilities include screening for family violence, conducting legal research, preparing documents, negotiating with opposing lawyers, appearing at hearings/trials/appeals, supervising staff, collaborating with community advocates, contributing to policy development and law reform, and working in a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive manner with Indigenous communities. Travel across BC and use of standard office technologies are required; a law degree and Law Society eligibility, plus a BC driver’s license, are required.
Required Qualifications
- A degree from a Law School of recognized standing
- Membership or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of British Columbia
- A valid BC driver’s license
- Willing and able to travel throughout BC
