Job Summary
ASL interpreter provides interpreting services for internal and external customers, maintains relationships with customers, manages schedules, mentors students and other interpreters, acts as liaison to customers and interpreters, assists in attracting new business, provides office support and coordinates projects, and reports expenses. Requires fluency in ASL and English, Advanced/Master License from the Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission, medical clearance, 3+ years of interpreting experience including VRI, ongoing certification, valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle, strong problem solving, time management, diversity commitment, and flexibility for weekends/evenings. Preference for Spanish and/or tactile skills; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Location: Chicago, IL, US; Full-time role with travel within the Chicago metro area.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in American Sign Language and English
- Advanced/Master license by the Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission
- Approved medical clearance
- 3+ years of related professional interpreting experience, including VRI services
- Must maintain certification status by continuing education units
- Must possess valid driver’s license and have access to an operational vehicle to travel independently in the Chicago metropolitan area and collar counties
- Strong problem solving, time management and priority setting skills
