Job Summary
Staff Equipment Design Engineer to lead end-to-end design of specialized hardware for testing aircraft structural integrity and propulsion components, partnering with Electrical and Controls teams to define equipment architecture, performing high-level engineering analyses (DFMEA, tolerance stacks), managing project scope, budgets, and timelines, spearheading formal design reviews, and providing mechanical support during build and SAT, while delivering comprehensive documentation and training materials. Requires strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX), GD&T, experience with DFMEA/first-principles analysis, and hands-on experience with automated test equipment, DAQ systems, sensors, and cross-functional collaboration in an aerospace context.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering (Master’s preferred) or equivalent
- 7+ years of progressive experience in specialized test equipment or complex machine design
- Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX) and GD&T
- Proven track record of managing large, complex assemblies and generating high-fidelity manufacturing documentation
- Demonstrated ability to apply first-principles engineering, including FEA, CFD, and statistical tolerance analysis
- Extensive experience leading the bring-up, debugging, and continuous improvement of automated equipment, including the integration of data acquisition (DAQ) systems and sensors
- Exceptional ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for executive presentations and cross-functional design reviews
- Travel: up to 10% domestically and internationally
