Job Summary
Staff Engineering Program Manager to manage the development of two early-stage robotics products. Partner with hardware and software leaders to implement program management systems, manage detailed timelines, define priorities, navigate trade-offs, and move robotics platforms from concept to prototype to real-world pilots. Responsibilities include unifying documentation and task-tracking methods, owning detailed timelines and milestones, translating high-level milestones into execution schedules and cross-functional Gantt charts, establishing sprint planning and progress reporting practices, identifying risks in hardware development and developing contingency plans, driving cross-functional alignment across mechanical, electrical, controls, testing and software teams, and advocating for new roles to support goals. Candidate should bring a Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field, 10+ years of experience with significant cross-functional PM experience in hardware/robotics, proficiency with Jira/Confluence, strong organizational skills, and a proven ability to operate in a matrixed organization with a hands-on hardware/software balance. The role requires in-office presence in Boston (Charlestown, MA) with a salary in the $188k-$208k range, plus benefits and equity.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or a related technical field)
- 10+ years of professional experience
- Significant portion spent as hands-on Mechanical, Hardware or Systems Engineer
- Significant portion spent in cross-functional Program Management for new product development
- Experience in robotics field is a major plus
- Founding Mindset: proven experience building program management processes from zero to one
- Hardware fluency including experience managing complex BOMs and physical prototyping schedules
- Cross-functional mastery bridging software and hardware
- Proficiency with Jira and Confluence; strong organizational and tooling skills
- Ability to translate product milestones into detailed execution schedules and cross-functional plans
- Strong communication skills with stakeholders and senior technical teams
- Willingness to spend a minimum of 4 days a week in the office in Boston
- Experience embedding in business priorities and user needs
- Ability to manage high-priority, high-risk problems and drive resourcing decisions
