Job Summary
Design, formulate, and optimize aqueous slurries containing active materials and conductive carbon additives, balancing rheological behavior with downstream processability and electrode performance. Establish quantitative links between mixing conditions and resulting particle microstructure, dispersion state, and transport properties. Diagnose and resolve dispersion stability challenges in chemically active phases using first-principles understanding of solvent-mediated interactions. Build and operate a comprehensive slurry characterization toolkit and translate raw data into predictive models of stability and performance. Serve as a technical mentor across the R&D organization, raising collective fluency in colloidal science and representing the function in cross-functional design reviews. Report to the manager of Electrochemical Design R&D to drive slurry and dispersion development for next-generation iron-air electrodes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's + 7 years work experience
- Master's degree + 5 years work experience
- PhD with 2+ years work experience
- degree in Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related fields
- Deep knowledge of colloidal and interfacial science, including solvent-mediated and particle-to-particle interactions
- Demonstrated experience in developing slurries and electrodes for battery applications, such as in flow batteries, semi-solid electrodes, or fuel cell catalyst inks
- Proficiency in developing and using characterization techniques (e.g. rheometry, vertical scan light-scattering, analytical centrifugation) to determine slurry characteristics and predict battery performance
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
