Job Summary
Build and evolve the Core Commerce Services platform by creating scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities from early technical discovery through production. Shape the architecture by defining APIs, domain boundaries, and integration patterns while making pragmatic decisions around scalability, reliability, security, and long-term maintainability. Drive technical alignment across Checkout, Payment, and other teams to establish clear ownership boundaries and integration contracts. Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, and code reviews to raise standards across the team. Partner with Product to translate business needs into scalable solutions for AI-powered assistants and emerging commerce channels.
Required Qualifications
- strong Java and backend engineering expertise
- experience designing and building backend services, platforms and large-scale distributed systems
- hands-on engineering
- comfortable contributing directly to production code
- Staff/Principal level or demonstrated equivalent senior technical leadership
- strong system design and architecture capabilities
- ability to take significant technical ownership with a high level of autonomy
- comfortable working in a greenfield / 0-to-1 environment
- ability to explore options, evaluate trade-offs and turn ambiguity into pragmatic technical decisions
- strong track record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence
- ability to help raise the technical level of a team and creating alignment across engineering domains
