Job Summary
Staff Engineer focused on the Backend for Post Purchase Experience in Coupang’s C-Returns Platform. Responsible for building and maintaining Tier 1 & 2 services handling 500K+ requests/day across multiple microservices, designing complex business workflows for cancellations, returns, exchanges, and refunds using Activiti BPMN and Temporal Cloud, and integrating with 15+ upstream/downstream systems (Order, Shipment, Payments, Transport). Requires crafting policy-driven logic to adapt to changing cancellation/return rules, high proficiency in distributed systems and JVM-based backend tech (Java/Kotlin), and strong collaboration with Product, CS, Logistics, and Payments teams. Hybrid/onsite/remote work model with a preference for Bengaluru-based engagement. Prior experience with scalable architectures, RESTful APIs, MySQL/Aurora, Kafka, workflow engines, monitoring, Git, and CI/CD tools is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years backend software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in building distributed systems and microservices architecture
- Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems handling millions of requests
- Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex distributed systems
- Excellent collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams (Product, CS, Logistics, Payment)
