Job Summary
Maintain and advance AvalancheGo, the software powering the Avalanche network, by managing community contributions, enforcing engineering standards, and holding the merge bar for network-critical code. Design and build core systems including consensus, peer-to-peer networking, state sync, and the VM plugin interface while championing reliability through observability standards and SLOs. Lead coordinated network upgrades, define release quality with rigorous testing, and mentor senior engineers to distribute technical direction across teams. Drive protocol direction through the ACP process and evangelize the project via ADRs and technical communications.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- 3+ years operating at a staff/lead level
- track record of raising team-wide engineering quality
- Expert-level Go
- deep fluency with the concurrency model (goroutines, channels, the race detector)
- profiling and performance tuning (pprof, benchmarks)
- module and dependency management
- idiomatic API design in large codebases
- Significant open source experience
- maintainer or sustained core contributor on a widely used project
- public record of reviews, RFCs/design docs, and community engagement
- Proven production experience designing, shipping, and operating distributed systems at scale
- consensus or replication
- P2P networking
- state synchronization
- comparable high-availability systems
- Strong testing discipline across the pyramid
- unit, property-based/fuzz, integration, and end-to-end network testing
- experience building CI that enforces it
