Staff Engineer, Agentic Intelligence - San Francisco

Job Summary
Staff Engineer to own the policy framework for an agentic underwriting system. You’ll design and build the configurable policies that encode underwriting judgment, author and validate policies across lenders/investors/loan products, and maintain the runtime harness for the agent. You’ll translate dense underwriting rules into clear, testable policy artifacts, establish quality metrics and evaluation loops, and drive rapid production iterations. Collaboration with ML engineers, the CTO, and senior product leadership is key as you mentor engineers, establish patterns and libraries, and help shape the team’s direction. The role is hybrid with in-office days in San Francisco and includes equity/competitive compensation, meaningful ownership, and full benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Experience building and operating LLM-based or agentic systems in production
- Experience designing configuration-driven systems (rules engines, policy/DSL frameworks, feature-flag or config platforms)
- Strong engineering proficiency in Go/Python and TypeScript (backend/frontend)
- Track record leading a technical surface end-to-end (systems shipped to real customers)
- Ability to design, implement, and evaluate underwriting policies and escalation/human-in-the-loop boundaries
- Product-oriented mindset with ability to engage customers and translate requirements into robust engineering solutions
- Experience building measurable evaluation datasets and fast iteration loops
- Comfort working across the stack (Go/Python backend, TypeScript frontend) and driving reliability and trust
