Job Summary
Process Control Engineer role at WestRock in West Point, VA focusing on the implementation of new process control technology and equipment; designs and programs changes to existing control systems; coordinates with vendors and maintenance; writes operator manuals and contributes to training; supports weekend/off-hour availability; maintains OSIsoft Pi historian and interfaces; manages projects from concept to commissioning with DCS/PLC/HMI systems (Honeywell TDC/Experion, Valmet, Rockwell, Modicon) and various industrial networks; strong emphasis on safety, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration; requires a B.S. in Chemical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and substantial industrial experience in DCS/PLC/HMI applications.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering preferred; other engineering degree acceptable with adequate DCS, PLC and HMI application experience
- Minimum of five years of industrial experience preferred with degree or 10 years plus of industrial experience in DCS, PLC and HMI applications would be required with two-year degree or equivalent military experience
- Strong knowledge of field instrumentation, control devices, and motor controls required
- Process control experience within with paper industry experience preferred
- Strong troubleshooting skillset for evaluating root cause and addressing technical issues with long term solutions in mind
- Experience with Honeywell TDC, Honeywell Experion, Valmet, Rockwell & Modicon DCS & PLC Systems
- Experience with AC and DC variable speed drives
- Strong computer skills including systems deploying VMWare
- Experience with Ethernet networks including configuration of switches, routers and VLANs
- Experience with Industrial Communication Protocols including Modbus TCP/IP and Ethernet IP
- Experience with control loop tuning and performance evaluation tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Results oriented individual capable of handling projects individually, yet able to work efficiently in a highly team-oriented environment
- Ability to drive large scale control system projects from concept to commissioning
- Self-directed, flexible, self-learner, multitasking, results driven, safety focused
- SharePoint / PowerApps / Flow knowledge a plus
- Location: West Point, VA and mill environment
