Staff Electrical Engineer - Power System Protection

Job Summary
Develop protective relay settings for line, transformer, breaker, and bus protection using industry-standard software. Perform relay setting calculations and develop setting files, while supporting Protection & Control design activities including one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring. Conduct power system analysis and modeling with tools such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM to deliver accurate protection solutions for transmission, distribution, and renewable collector substations. Configure communication protocols including DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus, and ensure compliance with NERC-PRC standards. Lead small projects managing schedules, budgets, and staffing, while performing QC/QA reviews and mentoring early-career engineers.
Required Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in the transmission industry
- Minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of Protection & Control (P&C) design concepts
- Experience developing protective relay settings and setting files
- Proficiency with power system modeling software, including ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM
- Experience using Mathcad and Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations
- Knowledge of communication protocols, including DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus
- Knowledge of IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV) and its implementation
- Knowledge of NERC-PRC and other applicable industry standards
- Excellent written communication and coordination skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Experience leading small projects, including schedule, budget, and resource management
- Experience supporting proposal development
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Experience performing QC/QA reviews
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
