Job Summary
Prepare all foods consumed during scheduled meals at the Great Falls Pre-Release Center, including lunches for residents in external programs. Serve prepared foods at noon and evening meals while ensuring adequate portions for all participants. Maintain daily cleaning and sanitizing of food preparation areas, deep clean ovens and coolers weekly, and operate kitchen equipment safely. Train Inmate/Resident Workers on dish washing and cleaning protocols. Adhere strictly to recipes, proper food storage, and health and safety standards including personal hygiene and protective gear. Provide culinary training to staff and complete required Food Service Training Program certifications. Work within a non-profit Community Corrections worksite serving 70 staff and up to 90 residents.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Culinary Institute Certificate
- "Serve Safe" or equivalence certification through accredited outside provider
- Two years continual experience in institutional food service
- One year's experience and certificate from accredited culinary institute
- Techniques of food preparation and nutrition
- Safety and health requirements involving City and State codes on food handling
- Strong understanding in techniques of interpersonal relations
- Ability to establish, understand and be sensitive to resident needs
- Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities
- Ability to approach problems and situations in a non-threatening manner
- Ability to apply and enforce policies
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to problem solve
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inmate/resident workers, fellow employees, regulatory agencies and the general public
