Job Summary
Staff Commissioning/Testing Engineer leading and/or supporting testing and commissioning of electrical equipment in substations or generator plants. Responsibilities include witnessing/directly performing DC Functional Trip Testing, testing protection relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and other substation equipment; mentoring and training engineers/technicians in relay testing and substation commissioning; directing field crews during commissioning and startup; developing testing documentation, training procedures, and project documentation; collaborating with customers and proposals; and applying knowledge of relay testing with GE, SEL, ALSTOM, SCHNEIDER, SIEMENS, and ABB. Requires understanding AC/DC diagrams, one-line drawings, P&C control equipment, and the ability to travel ~50% and work in varied conditions. Ideal candidate demonstrates project leadership, strong communication, problem solving, and the ability to lead teams independently; NICET certification or the ability to obtain it is encouraged.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical or engineering technology)
- 2-8+ years testing and commissioning experience
- Understanding of three-phase power systems
- Protection and control schemes experience
- Relay test Sets experience with vendors including SEL, GE, Beckwith, ABB, Basler, etc.
- Experience with equipment testing (circuit breakers, transformers, CTs, PTs, batteries & chargers, etc.)
- Experience with SCADA, RTU, and DFR systems
- Travel ability to travel a minimum of 50%
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to mount/dismount equipment and work in varied conditions
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- NICET certification or ability to obtain NICET
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical or engineering technology preferred
