Job Summary
Perform routine and complex design, analysis, and engineering calculations for concrete, steel, foundation, and earth retaining structures. Assist with preparing construction drawings, technical reports, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates to meet scope, schedule, and regulatory requirements. Review shop drawings for conformance with contract documents and attend client meetings under direct supervision. Communicate with clients and construction personnel to implement designs and project solutions. Conduct field work including inspections of existing infrastructure and construction observation, which may comprise up to 30% of the position and include travel or overnight stays. Serve as a project manager for small-to-medium projects or a task manager on larger assignments within multi-disciplinary teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) certification
- Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (P.E.) license within one year
- 4 or more years of direct work experience in civil engineering
- Willingness to tackle the unique engineering challenges related to aging infrastructure
- Understanding of civil/structural engineering principles, concepts, and practices applied to water conveyance and earth retention structures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Field work including inspections of existing infrastructure and construction observation
- Travel to client locations or project sites
- Overnight stays
- Completion of a criminal background check
Desired Qualifications
- Structural emphasis
- Experience in advanced design software applications (Tedds, SAP, AutoCAD, Civil3D, etc.)
- Master's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Experience with project proposals and presentations
- Some experience with management of small work groups and project tasks or project management of small projects
- Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD
