Job Summary
Design, prototype, and implement signal processing and bioinformatics algorithms to detect genomic data from signals within images. Analyze data and optimize software at the algorithm, design, and/or source code level to address signal impairments from optical, chemical, and mechanical systems. Collaborate with external teams to ensure smooth, end-to-end workflows and develop, debug, and integrate optimized C/C++ software on Linux for multi-threaded applications. Provide technical leadership and represent the team at project and executive levels. This role supports Illumina's Primary Analysis team in developing analysis solutions for researchers and clinicians worldwide to enable early disease detection and new treatment options.
Required Qualifications

- Ability to define the architecture, develop, and debug software applications
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Personal initiative and ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Be curious, detail oriented, and analytical, with a proven ability to learn quickly
- Master's degree or PhD in bioinformatics, biology, engineering, physical sciences, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent
- Minimum 6 years of related experience
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with communications theory and information theory
- Experience with time-series analysis and interpretation of temporal data
- Experience with Python and Python visualization libraries
- Experience with multi-threaded software, real-time systems, and/or software acceleration
- Familiarity with Agile software development processes (e.g. Scrum)
- Experience with using version control systems such as Git
- Experience with C++ is preferred, but other languages (e.g., Java or C#) will also be considered (Minimum: intermediate level with understanding of object-oriented design)
