Job Summary
Staff Backend Engineer (Developer Platform) at Coupang responsible for leading full-stack development on infrastructure, shaping developer experience and process strategy, hands-on development of critical infrastructure components, and collaboration with platform teams using JAVA, AWS, Kafka, Kubernetes, gRPC, and service mesh to build scalable, reliable services. The role emphasizes improving developer productivity through design of development processes, decomposing complex problems, and driving operational excellence, with a focus on scalable systems, high-quality architecture, and cross-team collaboration. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in CS or related field, 6+ years of software development (or 4+ years with advanced degree), experience with large-scale distributed systems, proficiency in C++, Java, Go, JavaScript, or TypeScript, cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP), and preferred skills in CI/CD, Kubernetes, gRPC, Spring Boot, concurrency, OS kernel understanding, and distributed systems like Kafka, Cassandra, Spark. English communication capability and a Master/PhD are a plus. This is a full-time regular position in Seoul, South Korea, with formal application processes and internal transfer form requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical fields
- 6+ years professional software development experience, or 4 years’ experience with advanced degree
- Hands-on experience designing and developing large scale distributed systems
- Fluent in one or more of C++, Java, Go, Javascript and Typescript
- Proven track record of delivering mission critical systems
- Experience with cloud computing using AWS or Azure or GCP
