Staff Attorney

The Staff Attorney provides legal representation and counsel across civil-law areas including family law, immigration, housing/tenancy, public benefits, and employment law for patients served under grant-funded programs. The role supports vulnerable communities through trial and hearings, displacement and homelessness prevention, and collaboration with social service teams. Responsibilities include advising and representing clients in discharge upgrades or licensing matters, assisting with parentage and support issues, drafting forms and briefs, attending meetings with partner organizations, and conducting outreach and education about available legal services. Strong organizational and communication skills, trauma-informed approach, ability to engage diverse populations, and willingness to travel to outreach locations (evenings/weekends when required) are essential. Proficiency in legal research, document preparation, case managementSoftware, and knowledge of community resources are beneficial. Spanish fluency is ideal but not essential. The position is exempt and involves collaboration with St. John’s Community Health and related NGOs, with an emphasis on public-interest law and serving disenfranchised communities.
