Job Summary

Staff Attorney, Senior Staff Attorney or Senior Counsel in the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project (2-year term-limited). Hybrid role with in-office requirements of two days per week or eight days per month, based in the National office with possible locations in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA. Conduct impact litigation and advocacy to advance immigrants’ rights, including litigating in federal (and potentially state) courts, handling a substantial federal caseload, performing legal research and writing memoranda, interviewing and fact-gathering, analyzing legislation for potential litigation, drafting pleadings and briefs, engaging in discovery and motion practice, conducting evidentiary hearings and oral arguments, providing technical legal advice to affiliates and partners, and conducting policy advocacy. Develop new cases and non-litigation advocacy projects; engage in public speaking; supervise paralegals and legal interns. Requires J.D. and active Bar; strong preference for Spanish fluency and experience in immigrant community settings. Salary ranges vary by year of law school graduation, with posted bands from $96,069–$120,009 to $214,920–$219,104 depending on years since graduation; salaries subject to regional pay adjustments. Required Qualifications

  • J.D. degree and active Bar membership
  • minimum of two years complex civil litigation experience in federal courts is strongly preferred
  • fluency in Spanish strongly preferred; other languages preferred
  • experience working with immigrant communities preferred
  • ability to work independently and within a team
  • strong legal research and writing skills
  • ability to argue persuasively in oral proceedings
  • self-motivation and ability to meet deadlines
