Job Summary
Staff Attorney II primarily in Community Education. The role involves working on a variety of immigration-law cases under supervision of a Managing Attorney, with responsibilities including supervision of legal interns and/or law students, mentorship of Staff Attorney I and/or paralegals, participating in collaboratives or stakeholder meetings, advocacy and policy work, trainings and education, community engagement, and other special projects. Qualifications include Juris Doctorate, active bar admission (California preferred), at least two years of immigration-law experience, strong organizational, case management, legal research, and legal writing skills, and a demonstrated willingness to be a collaborative team-player. Preference for multilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish, French, Mandarin, Portuguese, or Mayan Dialect) and experience with vulnerable populations; commitment to social justice; and readiness to sit for the next available California bar exam. Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (JD)
- Active bar admission (California state bar preferred, but not required)
- At least two years of experience as an attorney in immigration law
- Excellent organizational, case management, legal research, and legal writing skills
- Willingness to be a team-player with collaboration
- Proficiency in a second language such as Spanish, French, Mandarin, Portuguese, or Mayan Dialect (preferred)
- Experience in community outreach and/or public speaking
- Experience working with vulnerable client populations (children, families, or clients with mental health issues)
- Commitment to social justice for immigrants and vulnerable communities
- Capacity to supervise legal interns and/or law students; mentorship of Staff Attorney I and/or paralegals
- Ability to take initiative and work under pressure
- Participation in trainings and education; advocacy and policy; collaboration with stakeholders
