Job Summary
Represent clients in family reunification and humanitarian visa cases to Germany at embassy and court levels, conducting intake interviews, developing strategies, and drafting submissions. Collaborate with partner NGOs and German lawyers on case coordination and advocacy, while maintaining detailed records of all potential and active cases. Stay current on European and German legislative developments and participate in drafting legal manuals, pro se guides, and training materials for practitioners. Manage a high-volume workload remotely, reporting to the Supervising Attorney for Germany within a three-person team.
Required Qualifications
- Second German law degree required (2. Staatsexamen)
- Demonstrated experience providing legal assistance to refugees and/or asylum-seekers in Germany
- Sound knowledge of the European and German legislative framework and jurisprudence regarding refugees and/or human rights
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and prior experience interviewing and counseling clients in a legal setting
- Highly organized and flexible, able to multitask and manage a high-volume workload, and have excellent time management skills
- Sensitivity to client empowerment and to working with clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTQI clients, survivors of trauma, and other vulnerable populations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Excellent German and English communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in family reunification procedures preferred
- Excellent skills in other languages (particularly Arabic, Farsi, French, Somali, Swedish, Tigrinya)
