Job Summary
Gather evidence, advise clients on their rights, and draft legal documents for family law matters including divorces, child custody, protective orders, and enforcement. Conduct civil lawsuits and represent clients in court while interviewing witnesses with cultural competence. Design and carry out outreach and community legal education to promote survivor-focused policies within the family court system. Supervise legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers as needed. Provide trauma-informed legal representation to indigent clients in Dallas County, interpreting laws and rulings for their best interest. Collaborate with the Legal Program Director and other attorneys to ensure successful communication and assist with hearings or court appearances when conflicts arise.
Required Qualifications
- Law degree (JD or LLM) from an ABA-accredited U.S. institution and admission in good standing to Texas State Bar
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant family law experience including divorces, child custody, protective orders, modifications, and enforcement
- Licensed to practice in Texas
- Excellent written and verbal skills required
