Job Summary
Staff Attorney for CCSCC's Youth Legal Services program provides direct representation to youth up to age 21 in SIJS, guardianship, and asylum matters, filing SIJS petitions and asylum applications before USCIS/EOIR, representing clients in state and immigration proceedings, and collaborating with other immigration attorneys. Responsibilities include intake and eligibility assessments, litigating hearings, maintaining case records, and participating in trainings and equity/trauma-informed organizational initiatives. Requirements include CA Bar membership and ability to practice in California, bilingual Spanish proficiency preferred, and experience with guardianship, asylum, and SIJS cases. Work is on-site in San Jose, CA, full-time, exempt.
Required Qualifications
- Active membership in the California State Bar
- Ability to live and practice law in California
- Bilingual ability required; Spanish proficiency strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience handling guardianship, asylum (affirmative and/or defensive), and SIJS cases
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with youth and diverse communities
- Ability to communicate legal concepts in a developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed manner
