Job Summary
Staff Attorney in the Family Law Program provides legal advice and representation to low-income San Diegans in family matters (custody, domestic violence, DVROs), mentors pro bono attorneys, recruits volunteers, develops training materials, and conducts community outreach. The role entails coordinating with pro bono teams, supervising non-attorney staff, preparing clients for hearings, and working across SDVLP programs (including immigrant/refugee survivor initiatives) with a hybrid on-site schedule (minimum 2-3 days/week) across San Diego offices. Must be admitted to the California Bar and possess strong written/verbal communication, mentorship, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with ability to travel regionally and accommodate occasional evenings/weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a member in good standing of the California Bar
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent mentorship and teaching skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, with the public, volunteers, court personnel, government agencies, and partner organizations
- Ability to travel to court hearings and SDVLP’s other offices throughout San Diego County, as necessary
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by events and deadlines
- Spanish written and speaking ability is preferred
