Job Summary

Represent survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in restraining order hearings and other family law proceedings while maintaining trauma-informed practices. Provide direct legal services to low-income individuals, frequently travel to branch offices, courts, and community organizations throughout southern California, and collaborate with social services agencies to assess community legal needs. Attend team meetings, participate in public policy advocacy and outreach activities, and ensure grant compliance alongside timely administrative duties such as timekeeping and case file updates. This hybrid role requires on-site presence for two days per week and involves regular court appearances.

Required Qualifications

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • An active California State Bar license
  • Prior experience serving low-income individuals and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Experience working with trauma-informed approaches
  • Excellent communication (oral, written, listening) skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, business communication platforms, and web-based case management platforms
  • Passion for NLSLA mission and demonstrated commitment to advocating for the legal rights of low-income individuals
  • Passion, empathy, and compassion for supporting people from different lived experiences
  • This position is exempt
  • This position is designated as hybrid
  • Employees are required to work on-site a minimum of two (2) days per week
  • Travel to NLSLA program offices, courthouses, and other locations throughout Los Angeles County may be required
  • Membership in the union is a condition of employment for this position

Desired Qualifications

  • Worked in a legal services firm
  • Are bilingual in Spanish, due to the high number of Spanish-speaking residents in the community, or in any of the other Los Angeles threshold languages, which is highly valued in our community outreach efforts
