Job Summary
Review parties' filings and records, independently research legal issues, and identify recommendations for resolving matters. Orally present findings to monthly judge panels, draft orders and non-precedential decisions, and manage a docket of cases while performing administrative tasks. Respond to public inquiries and process emergency motions on an expedited basis outside regular hours as needed. This one-year term position, renewable up to five years, is based in the San Francisco Bay Area with occasional telework opportunities. Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, and responses to supplemental questions by August 12, 2026, followed by interviews scheduled for the week of August 17, 2026.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- At least two (2) years post-J.D. legal work experience consistent with the duties and responsibilities of this position
- Proof that you are licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia, and an active member of the bar in good standing
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident in the process of applying for citizenship
- Ability to write clearly and concisely
- Ability to display strong oral communication skills
- Ability to be persuaded to change your mind
- Direct deposit of pay
- Adherence to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees
- Ability to work from San Francisco Bay Area or other courthouses in the Circuit (including Pasadena, California; Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington)
- Ability to work outside of regular work hours for emergency motions
- Ability to handle a higher volume of assignments, conduct peer review of cases, and work on increasingly complex matters with increased experience
