Job Summary

Provide legal, administrative, and systemic representation to people with disabilities, ensuring protection of their rights. Investigate allegations of abuse and neglect, draft investigative and monitoring reports, and analyze cases for systemic issues to formulate prevention strategies. Consult with professionals to identify barriers, lead project teams fostering self-determination, and participate in committees and training. Maintain accurate confidential files, client records, and time logs in the tracking database. Open and close case files timely, assist in preparing reports to funding sources, and provide multilingual client support as needed. Travel throughout New York State and outside the state as necessary. Perform related tasks consistent with DRNY's mission to advocate for civil rights.

Required Qualifications

  • Be a member in good standing of the New York State Bar or eligible to waive in from another jurisdiction, or be eligible to become a member within a reasonable time after beginning employment and maintain such standing throughout employment with DRNY
  • Have 0 to 5 years experience
  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to public interest law
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Relationship-building skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding professionalism and ethical judgment
  • Must be a New York State resident
  • Work and reside in New York State consistent with DRNY's policies

Desired Qualifications

  • Multilingual skills preferred

  • Public interest, civil rights, or disability law experience
  • Litigation and administrative hearing experience
