Job Summary
Provide legal, administrative, and systemic representation to people with disabilities, ensuring protection of their rights. Investigate allegations of abuse and neglect to draft reports, while monitoring service providers for compliance with federal and state laws. Analyze cases to identify systemic issues and formulate prevention strategies with the Program Director. Consult with professionals to identify options and barriers, then lead projects that foster self-determination and coalition building. Maintain accurate, confidential files and client records in the tracking database, prepare reports for funding sources, and manage time records to obtain attorney fees. Open and close case files timely, providing multilingual support as needed. Travel throughout New York State and outside the state as necessary to perform assigned tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Be a member in good standing of the New York State Bar or eligible to waive in from another jurisdiction, or be eligible to become a member within a reasonable time after beginning employment and maintain such standing throughout employment with DRNY
- Have 0 to 5 years experience
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to public interest law
- Ability to work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills
- Relationship-building skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Outstanding professionalism and ethical judgment
- Must be a New York State resident
- Work and reside in New York State consistent with DRNY's policies

- Public interest, civil rights, or disability law experience
- Litigation and administrative hearing experience
