Job Summary
Organize and supervise archaeological fieldwork for large-scale surveys, NRHP evaluations, and data recovery investigations across the Southwest. Lead field crews in remote environments while maintaining high standards for documentation and ensuring accurate completion of reporting requirements. Conduct post-field analysis, produce technical reports, and collaborate with Project Archaeologists to meet federal and state regulatory standards. Utilize GPS/GNSS technology and digital recording systems to collect and map site attributes. Reside in El Paso, Texas, with a valid driver's license and ability to travel for extended assignments.
Required Qualifications
- B.A. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field
- Minimum of three years of archaeological field experience
- Technical report-writing experience
- Demonstrated experience on large-scale archaeological survey
- Demonstrated experience on NRHP evaluation
- Demonstrated experience on data recovery projects
- Working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines governing cultural resources
- Proficiency with GPS/GNSS technology
- Ability to adapt to evolving archaeological data-collection and mapping technologies
- Experience collecting field data using Trimble GPS units
- Experience using data dictionaries
- Experience using digital recording systems
- Ability to record site attributes through standardized menus and forms
- Strong technical writing skills

- Ability to effectively supervise archaeological field crews
- Ability to work with archaeological field crews in remote and demanding field environments
- Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check

- Valid driver's license
- Access to reliable transportation
- Ability to pass required security clearance or background investigations
- Ability to conduct archaeological survey and excavation under a wide range of environmental and weather conditions
- Ability to conduct archaeological survey and excavation in extreme heat
- Ability to conduct archaeological survey and excavation in extreme cold
- Residence in El Paso, Texas, or an adjacent community
- Ability and willingness to travel for extended field assignments
Desired Qualifications
- Eligibility to obtain, or willingness to work towards obtaining archaeological permits in Texas, New Mexico and/or Arizona
- Experience conducting cultural resource investigations on U.S. military installations
- Experience preparing technical reports
- Experience preparing site forms
- Experience preparing NRHP evaluations
- Experience preparing testing reports
- Experience preparing data recovery reports
- Familiarity with large-scale cultural resource management projects conducted for federal, state, military, and commercial clients
- Experience with ArcGIS
- Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps

- Experience with comparable archaeological field-data collection systems
