Job Summary
As a Staff AI research scientist, lead a high-impact research agenda on large language models and agentic systems, driving projects from hypothesis to model training, evaluation, and production deployment. Conduct large-scale post-training experiments (SFT, RLHF, RLAIF, DPO, etc.) to improve multi-step reasoning and tool use in enterprise agentic workflows. Develop evaluation benchmarks, scalable data-synthesis pipelines, and contribute to model architecture and training roadmaps. Publish in top venues (NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, ACL), mentor researchers, and collaborate with research engineering and product teams. Hybrid role based out of San Francisco or New York City.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of hands-on ML research experience with large language models pre-training and post-training
- Expert-level knowledge of SFT, RLHF, RLAIF, DPO, GRPO and related alignment techniques
- Strong Python and PyTorch (or JAX) skills and ability to build/train pipelines
- Meaningful publication record at NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, ACL, EMNLP or equivalent
- Hands-on experience designing/evaluating agentic systems—planning, multi-step reasoning, tool use
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, or related field or equivalent demonstrated research experience
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to collaborate across research, engineering, and product teams
- Experience shipping improvements to production-grade AI systems
