Staff Accountant

Job Summary

Prepare and post journal entries, perform monthly reconciliations for bank, prepaid expense, accrual, and balance sheet accounts, and maintain general ledger accuracy. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, prepare schedules supporting financial statements, and ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls. Reconcile and record membership dues, event, and sponsorship revenue; process cash receipts and payment batches; and reconcile corporate credit card activity. Partner with program staff for proper cost allocation and departmental coding. Provide coverage for accounts payable processes during staff absences or peak workloads. Work in Washington, DC, with a Tuesday through Thursday office schedule and remote options on Mondays and Fridays. Salary ranges from $85,000 to $95,000 with bonus potential.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field
  • Minimum of one to three years of accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and accrual-basis accounting
  • Proficiency in accounting software
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff across departments
  • Position based in Washington, DC
  • U.S. Travel staff work in the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a trade association, nonprofit or membership organization
  • Familiarity with nonprofit fund accounting
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or a comparable CRM
  • Progress toward CPA licensure
