Staff Accountant

Job Summary
Prepare and record journal entries, complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and enter cash receipts and deposits. Assist with accounts receivable, payroll processing, and tax reporting while maintaining fixed asset schedules and prepaid expense records. Process travel reimbursements, review account activity to resolve discrepancies, and support monthly and year-end closing procedures. Prepare schedules for financial statements and assist with annual audit preparation. Maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks for affiliated organizations, adhere to internal controls, and provide cross-functional support within the Business Department as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to prioritize workload and consistently meet monthly deadlines
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of financial and employee information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to learn accounting, payroll, banking, and financial software systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team
- Demonstrated willingness to learn new responsibilities and adapt to changing departmental needs

Desired Qualifications
- Previous accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Experience in nonprofit accounting, healthcare accounting, payroll, grants, or fund accounting
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks
- Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations
- Experience with nonprofit accounting practices
- Experience assisting with monthly financial close and annual audit preparation
