Job Summary
Prepare monthly journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and analyze revenue and expenses to ensure accurate financial reporting. Investigate financial variances, review Medicare, Medicaid, and private-pay payments, and compare aging reports from the electronic medical record system with the accounting system. Assist with claim processing, maintain financial spreadsheets, and respond to financial questions while collaborating with staff across departments. Ensure all transactions are properly documented according to GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local requirements. This role supports the organization's financial goals within a not-for-profit healthcare setting serving older adults and seriously ill individuals across northeast Kansas.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices, including GAAP
- Ability to prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate financial discrepancies and variances
- Ability to accurately manage and analyze financial data
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
- Ability to maintain and work with financial spreadsheets and accounting systems
- Ability to understand and follow organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff across different departments
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet reporting deadlines
- Willingness to learn and use evolving technology and financial systems
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Previous experience in a staff accountant or similar accounting position
- Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and monthly reconciliations
- Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, private-pay, healthcare billing, or claims
- Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and accounting software
- Strong Microsoft Excel/spreadsheet skills
- Experience analyzing financial reports and identifying variances or discrepancies
- Experience working in a healthcare, nonprofit, or human-services organization
- Familiarity with applicable healthcare and financial regulations
