Job Summary
Staff Accountant II responsible for a broad range of general accounting tasks including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, tax accounting, and financial statement preparation. The role supports financial operations by maintaining and reconciling records, processing invoices and payments, preparing reports, and assisting with audits and tax filings. Ensures compliance with GAAP and government contracting pay requirements, including CBAs, under the supervision of the Assistant Controller. Core duties include journal entries, month-end/quarter-end/year-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, tax-related activities, cost tracking for government contracts, contract setup in accounting systems, timely invoicing, data compilation for audits, and participation in internal/external audits. Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), at least 3 years of experience in accounting functions, strong knowledge of GAAP, government contracting, CBAs, and experience with Deltek and Dayforce. Emphasizes attention to detail, reliability, strong communication, team orientation, and willingness to work within a structured office environment with occasional travel as indicated (no travel noted). The role is full-time with standard core hours and potential evening/weekend shifts; probationary period of six months and background checks/drug screen required; eligibility for Top Secret clearance may be necessary depending on project assignments, with ongoing clearance management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration; or equivalent of 4 years of education and/or experience required
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll
- Detailed knowledge of government contracting
- Experience with Deltek and Dayforce
- Adherence with GAAP
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
- Experience with Union Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge of standard contract terms and how they apply to billing
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to train or mentor accounting or payroll staff
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Reliable, accurate, and detail-oriented
- Strong project management skills
