Staff Accountant - Financial Operations

Job Summary
Own day-to-day administrative and financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. Support month-end and year-end close processes, prepare financial statements and reports for stakeholders, and maintain accurate, audit-ready records for LIHTC/HTC compliance. Streamline accounting workflows using technology, assist with budgeting and cash flow tracking, and coordinate financial data requests with property management and external partners. You will work under the direct supervision of our Fractional CFO, with a defined pathway to grow into a full-time Controller role. This developmental position offers a mentorship program and mission-driven work focused on transforming New Orleans communities.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting
- Strong proficiency in Excel
- Comfort learning accounting/ERP software
- A genuine interest in using technology and automation to improve accounting processes and efficiency
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines independently
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- A growth mindset and the drive to advance into a Controller-level role over time
- Must have the ability to pass a background check and drug screening test
Desired Qualifications
- Progress toward CPA certification
- Experience or interest in real estate, property management, affordable housing, or nonprofit accounting
- Exposure to LIHTC/HTC compliance or affordable housing finance
- Experience supporting a fractional or outsourced CFO, controller, or accounting firm
