SSMC - Phlebotomist

Perform phlebotomy functions including venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick according to established procedures, prioritizing STAT draws within 10–15 minutes and severe trauma cases immediately. Identify patients by armband, label specimen tubes at the bedside using the Automated Patient Identification system, and transport all specimens to the lab on a priority basis. Utilize computers for order entry, generate collection lists, and accurately complete workload statistics by drawing all assigned patients by shift end. Assist co-workers during morning rounds, help train new employees and interns, and act as a receptionist to greet patients and answer phones when required. Maintain daily cleaning of equipment, ensure proper disposal of waste, monitor refrigerator temperatures, and adhere to all safety policies and Universal Precautions.
