Job Summary
Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) at Southwind Construction to oversee and enforce safety, health, and environmental protection on assigned construction projects. Ensures compliance with EM 385‐1‐1 and OSHA, conducts inspections, leads safety meetings, documents hazards, and coordinates with Superintendent, QCM, Project Manager, subcontractors, and government representatives. Responsibilities include implementing the Accident Prevention Plan, maintaining daily safety reports, conducting toolbox talks, site orientations, fall protection and hazard communications training, emergency action planning, and coordinating with regulators for inspections. Qualified candidates will have strong communication, leadership, and inspection skills, ability to interpret safety regulations, and physical ability to perform site inspections; required to be a US citizen with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance. Education: HS diploma required; associate/bachelor’s preferred in Safety or Construction Management; certifications include OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens, EM 385-1-1 40-Hour, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication; Experience with federal projects and safety investigations preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED required
- associate or bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction
- First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens
- EM 385-1-1 40-Hour Hazard Recognition
- Confined Space Entry
- Fall Protection (Competent Person)
- Hazard Communication
- Annual refresher training as required by EM 385-1-1
- Experience on federal construction projects (preferred)
- Experience conducting accident investigations (preferred)
- Experience training personnel in safety procedures (preferred)
