Job Summary
Reviews insurance applications and documentation to evaluate applicant eligibility using company guidelines. Determines medical, non-medical, and compliance requirements while interpreting regulations and escalating cases for further review. Makes sound risk selections to protect the company and satisfies customer expectations by advising financial professionals on underwriting rationales. Co-signs the work of less experienced underwriters and mentors junior staff. Participates in contestable claims reviews to identify process improvements and assists system development with business and test plan requirements. Interprets normal electrocardiograms and updates the Life Underwriting Guide. Holds approval authority for rates up to $25 million and co-signs authority through $5 million.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- 5+ years of life underwriting experience
- Active pursuit or completion of a LOMA designation
