Job Summary

Underwrite complex commercial credits over $1M, including multi-party borrowers and unusual financing structures, by analyzing financial statements, cash flow, and business plans to assess feasibility and terms. Structure loans with appropriate covenants, closing conditions, and third-party guarantees while developing detailed cash flow models and mitigating underwriting risk. Support periodic credit servicing, coordinate credit pipelines for assigned lenders, and manage multiple projects to prioritize workload effectively. Endorse credit memos for Staff Loan Committee approval and lead training efforts related to underwriting processes. Analyze industry trends and macroeconomic events affecting borrower creditworthiness while ensuring compliance with SBA and USDA requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Six to ten years' experience in business or financial analysis
  • Preferably in commercial lending, underwriting or the equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Understanding of financial statement analysis and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including experience in analyzing historical financials, projections and the nuances of underwriting start-up businesses
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of finance
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex financial problems
  • A basic understanding of the principles of community development finance and government guarantees (USDA and SBA)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A comfort level with public speaking
  • Strong customer relationship management skills
  • Ability to identify and prioritize Craft3 risks in a proposed or existing borrower
  • Develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies
  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, legal documents or governmental regulations and the interpretations impact on deal risk or structuring
  • Basic Algebra skills
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Proficiency with major software programs; e.g. Contact Management Systems, Word Processing, PowerPoint and Spreadsheet software
  • Periodic travel is expected for customer and office visits in Oregon and Washington, as well as company events
  • Must be able to occasionally list and/or move up to 10 pounds
