Job Summary
Handle a full inventory of complex litigated files, including discovery, arbitration, mediation, and trials, with minimal management oversight. Applies independent analysis to prepare legal pleadings, motions, and trial documents while advising and mentoring less senior attorneys. Conducts all phases of personal injury litigation, including investigation and jury trials, for the most complex and highest value cases. Serves as a resource to resolve major issues within the legal specialty area and anticipates potential legal impacts on insurance operations. Requires a California Bar license, 10-12+ years of experience, and ability to travel for appearances.
Required Qualifications
- 10-12+ years of experience in insurance defense practice with considerable courtroom and first-chair trial experience
- Juris Doctorate
- license to practice law in California
- Proficient in personal injury litigation including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, personal injury damages and causation and the tri-partite relationship
- Ability to work collaboratively with assigned paralegal(s) and support staff
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and timely manner
- Strong negotiation skills
- Proficient computer skills, including MS office and online research tools
- Ability to manage case inventory of complex cases with a high degree of efficiency
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively and effectively
- Advanced analytical and legal skills including the ability to think and act independently in a client's best interest
- Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of legal ethics
- Actively licensed and in good standing with the California Bar
- Must be available for travel when appropriate for certain appearances, including arbitrations and trials
- Must be available for occasional in-person meetings and events with teams
- Must have authorization to work indefinitely in the US
